Morocco
Hola! I can now officially say that I've been to Africa. Although if I'm being honest, I never really felt like I was in another continent especially when Spain was so close that I could see it across the sea. Either way, this trip to Morocco is one of the coolest weekend trips I will probably ever get to go on.
After getting up early on Friday morning, we hopped on a Ryan Air flight to Tangier and met our tour guide Mohammad or as we called him, Momo. Momo took us to a shawarma place to go get some lunch as we were all pretty hungry after our flight and two hour long wait in the customs line. Then we headed over to our hotel where we dropped off our bags and began our walking tour of Tangier. We were led through the very narrow streets where we saw at least 50 stray cats as well as many little shops and homes. Eventually we walked into a herbal/spice shop where we got to hear all about what Morocco is mainly known for: argon oil. This was a very cool experience because we got to try out the many different scents of the oils, try on different perfumes, and smell various spices such as saffron. I admit that I did buy quite a few things from the store, but I have no regrets. After I dropped way too much money in the spice/ oil store, we headed over to a scarf shop where I got a cute little blue pashmina scarf that I wore for the entirety of the trip.
We then went to a group dinner where we got a three course meal consisting of soup, chicken couscous, and a dessert served with a very yummy mint tea. We were then dragged out of our seats by the servers to dance as a group with the live musicians which was very fun. After this eventful dinner we were finally able to go back to the hotel so that we could sleep.
The next morning, we got an early breakfast at the hotel and then headed over to Chefchaouen or more commonly the Blue City. This was one of my favorite days on the trip because the city was so fun to walk around. There were so many cool sights and stalls and even more adorable cats. After we got a walking tour of the city, we got a delicious lunch and then we went on a little hike to a lookout point on a mountain. I admit that while this "little" hike was absolutely exhausting, the views were well worth it. We were able to see the entirety of the Blue City from the view point and it was a phenomenal sight.
The next day, I finally got to ride a camel and it was one of the coolest 10 minutes ever. We got to ride our camels along the beach and it was such a cool experience. After our camel ride, we went over to the Hercules Caves which were cool but a little overrated in my opinion. After that, our group headed over to McDonald's to get a bite to eat before we went back to the airport. Unfortunately, our plane was an hour late so we were all crammed into this tiny waiting area in the airport for 3 hours.
This was certainly one of the most interesting trips I've ever been on, but I was very excited to go home and I'm glad it was only 3 days. While I am happy I went, I can't say I would ever go again. Adios!
