Welcome to "Tapas, Travel, and Textbooks"!

I’m thrilled to share my journey as I begin an exciting fall semester studying abroad in Madrid, Spain! I will be partaking in a wonderful opportunity to continue my nursing education while also getting the chance to improve my Spanish speaking skills and explore the cities of Spain.

Over the next few months, I'll be living with a host family, which will add a unique and personal touch to my experience. With their help, I’ll explore Madrid’s hidden gems and beloved landmarks, and get a taste of what everyday life is like in this incredible city.

But my adventure won’t stop in Madrid. I’m also planning to travel around Spain, soaking in the diverse landscapes and traditions from Barcelona to Toledo. And who knows? I might even venture into neighboring countries to broaden my European adventure.

Expect weekly updates where I’ll share stories from my travels, the highs and lows of my experiences, and reflections on everything I love (and don’t love) about studying abroad. Please feel free to comment below each post as I will do my best to respond to all of them!

Valencia and Exploring Madrid

Hola! I'm very sorry that I haven't updated in a while, but a lot has happened in the last few weeks. To start off, Valencia was an amazing day trip to the beach where I ate paella and drank orange juice by the sea. It was the perfect day for the beach as the sun was shining and the water was the perfect temperature. The drive was long and tedious, but we did get to stop at a diner type place where I got a cafe con leche and a croissant the size of my head.  Once we actually arrived in Valencia, we immediately headed to the beach and we played some volleyball, swam in the ocean, and sunbathed for a bit. We even got to see dolphins in the distance which was a really cool surprise. And true to the European beach experience, we did see some people who were more appropriately dressed (or rather undressed) for a nude beach. Regardless, I had a lot of fun at the beach and really enjoyed my day there. After another uneventful week of classes, we stayed in Madrid for the next two weeke...

Day One

Today was probably the longest day of my life. Starting at 6 AM on the 21st, I headed to the airport and had two uneventful but cramped flights from SFO to DFW to MAD. Unfortunately sleep evaded me for both flights and I only watched one movie even though I have at least 5 movies and a couple tv shows downloaded. After finally landing at 9 AM on the 22nd, I felt like a zombie. We were able to hop on a taxi and head right to our hotel where I proceeded to then sleep for 7 hours. I will admit that the jet lag has hit me like a rock and I no longer know whether it's time for lunch, dinner, or breakfast. At least I'll have a few days to settle in before my classes begin.  Many people have told me of the phases that I would go through while studying abroad: the honeymoon phase, homesick phase, and the phase where you finally gain a sense of belonging. Morocco

Hola! I can now officially say that I've been to Africa. Although if I'm being honest, I never really felt like I was in another continent especially when Spain was so close that I could see it across the sea. Either way, this trip to Morocco is one of the coolest weekend trips I will probably ever get to go on.  After getting up early on Friday morning, we hopped on a Ryan Air flight to Tangier and met our tour guide Mohammad or as we called him, Momo. Momo took us to a shawarma place to go get some lunch as we were all pretty hungry after our flight and two hour long wait in the customs line. Then we headed over to our hotel where we dropped off our bags and began our walking tour of Tangier. We were led through the very narrow streets where we saw at least 50 stray cats as well as many little shops and homes.
